SHOWDOWN: A Bavarian Battle - BMW's 3-Series xDrive vs. BMW X1 xDrive Leaves Us Asking ONE Big Question
We called this well before the BMW X1 landed on our shores and now it's happening. The BMW X1 is getting priced right up against the likes of the BMW 3-Series and since we're betting men, we'd wager that this could be too good to pass up.

Currently in the New York Tri-State region, you can pick up a 2013 BMW 3-Series for the following prices:

- 2013 BMW 328i = $389 for 36 mo

- 2013 BMW 328i xDrive = $399 for 36 mo

- 2013 BMW 335i = $429 for 36 mo

- 2013 BMW 335i xDrive = $469 for 36 mo

Meanwhile, you can snap up an X1 for the following:

- 2013 BMW X1 sDrive28i = $399 for 36 mo

- 2013 BMW X1 xDrive28i = $419 for 36 mo

- 2013 BMW x1 xDrive35i = $449 for 36 mo

So, that's only a $10 differential between the rear-wheel drive 28s and a $20 difference per month on the 28s with all-wheel drive. And on the all-wheel drive X1 you're actually saving $20 when compared to an all-wheel drive 335i.

So, why would anyone prefer to take the 3-Series over the X1?

"So, why would anyone prefer to take the 3-Series over the X1?"

Maybe they don't want an SUV/wagon. They want more rear legroom. They want a deeper trunk. They want the new bells and whistles that are on the 3-Series but not the X1. I'm sure there are more possible reasons, those are just off the top of my head.

Hey Agent00R,

while you're at it can you please Post some articles about the recalling from BMW new M5 and M6 and the recall from Hyundai, Kia and other automaker as well.

Here is a few link to refresh your memory ; )

Yes even autospies belove brands like BMW, MB, Audi, Hyundai and Kia has recall as well. I'm just tire of ONLY seeing most recall articles are from Toyota or Honda.

And there is more recall from those brands but I think you get the point. No brands is perfect. Every auto companies has it problems but number being sold versus being recall is very small for the Japanese brands. Like it or not it's the truth.

and if you really want to talk about recalls: how about the 7.43 MILLION cars toylex just recalled? kinda pales in comparison next to 700 hundred cars globally.

@nineteen,

I join this website around 2002-2003 and a lot of members has come and goes. Gee, I wonder why? If they just post the fact cars and anything related to cars and not show favoritism of one brand over another than maybe, just maybe more members would join and stay.

OMG! Are both of you in your teens? If you don't like the site move on, and stop your tantrums. You guys whine more than my 17 y/o.
It seems to me that you guys are the ones showing favoritism to one brand.
In regards to the M5 recall, who gives a sh&$! If I was in the market for $100K+ sedan I would definitely have it on my list; recall or not. Just like all the TOYOTA and HONDA lovers you guys praise. They will still buy them!

nineteen, roger. It seems everyone is always biased towards something. That is why I stopped my subscription to car magazines (Automobile, Car & Drive and Motor Trend). Seemed to me that same auto manufacturers always won all the comparisons.
BTW anyone interested in attending the 2012 Porsche Road Show in Sebring (16-18 Oct). I have an invitation (with passcode) and won't be able to use it. You get to drive all PORSCHE models at the track.

great question, despite all the lame responses above... I think the center of gravity will decide which the customer wants to drive day to day and styling in general...

Um, yes it comes into play as to whether the customer wants a more nimble canyon carver or more comfortable highway cruiser, so the X1 being the highway cruiser versus the better handling lower 3 series, that's how I see it... maybe I am wrong and the X1 can do the same on the skid pad but I doubt it handles as nice as the lower to the ground models, physics

In the tri state area you can lease a Audi 2.0 quattro for only $369 a month, and if you previously drove an Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Saab or Volvo Audi will pay $1,000 towards the lease or purchase of a new, unused 2012 or 2013 A4.
