Cadillac ELR Plug-In To Be Built In Volt Assembly Plant

General Motors Co. will build its new Cadillac ELR plug-in electric luxury coupe at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant, beginning late next year, GM's North American President Mark Reuss said Tuesday.

The plant, which also builds the Chevrolet Volt, will get a $35 million investment to build the extended-range electric ELR, Reuss said during a keynote address to SAE Convergence at Cobo Center in Detroit.

"The ELR will be in a class by itself, further proof of our commitment to electric vehicles and advanced technology," Reuss said in a statement. "People will instantly recognize it as a Cadillac by its distinctive, signature look and true-to-concept exterior design."

It will cost, in the words of Bob Lutz, "about two Volts" or $75k +

The $75k question is therefore, is the ELR going to be "twice as good" as a Volt?
