It wasn't the design. Rather it was the high price compared to it's competition.Hatchbacks don't sell in high numbers over 30 grand. I'm sure a Golf R sells at a fraction of a GTI.A further problem. The C30's styling put it into a more sport hachback catagory like the VW Scirocco.
Like the Scirocco it offered less room than other hatchbacks. Another problem Volvo had no marketing plan for the C30 in the US.It was a goodlooking car that had OK driving dynamics.

Agree, it is a very competitive category. But don't just discontinue it, redesign it with a better value proposition.
