New LS Retains Quiet And Comfort But F-Sport Falls Short Of The Competition

Waiting at a traffic light in a 2013 Lexus LS 600h L, the fuel-saving yet powerful hybrid powertain automatically switched to temporary shutdown and the quiet environment inside the big luxury car became nearly silent.

Before I lifted my foot off the brake and the car sprung back to life, I realized I could barely hear the cement truck in front of me.

Powering down the driver's side window, I confirmed that diesel-engined concrete mixers have not suddenly become quiet. The Lexus had shielded me from the noisy outside world.

Who was the huge Lexus fan here claiming the hybrid will get nearly 30 mpg? When the 4.6 V8 came out on the last LS it was at the top of its game but now some competitor sixes will outhustle it.

As for the hybrid it makes even less sense now, little fuel economy gains even over the V8.

umm.... I dont see how there are any V6s on the market that offers more than 380hp that can "outhustle" the 4.6 V8.... most competitors are at the 300-335hp range when it comes to power from a V6

The last LS tested by Road & Track only ran a 102 mph quarter mile. The updated version might improve upon that a little but if you look at what the A8 3.0T and 740i do you will see that both outperform those figures. It's not always about peak power that a manufacturer puts on paper but area under the power curve.

Great looking car, that's what most buyers look for. Guys in this segment do race like the little kids on this site....
