Audi says first-half net profit up 36 percent
FRANKFURT, Germany -- Automaker Audi AG said Tuesday that consumer willingness to pay for luxury models helped boost net profit by 36 percent in the first half of the year.

The Ingolstadt-based company, part of Volkswagen AG, said it earned 407 million euros ($519.6 million) in the January-June period, compared with the 300 million euros it earnded a year earlier.

Revenue was up 17 percent to 15.4 billion euros ($19.6 billion) from 13.2 billion euros last year. Audi did not release second-quarter figures.

Worldwide, sales were up 9.8 percent with 463,494 cars sold in the first six months of the year, compared with 421,965 in the same period last year.

With the Q7 here, Audi fills a huge hole in their model lineup in finally having an SUV. The X5 is a huge seller, and Audi not having an SUV has lost out on the SUV craze for several years.

The Q5 is also an important model for Audi, as currently they don't have anything to compete with the X3.
