As reported last week on AutoSpies.com...Toyota to drop Corolla name

I think this is a mistake on Toyota's part. When I think Toyota, the word "Corolla" is one of the first things that come to mind. Dropping it is as if BMW would drop the 3-Series, its bread and butter. Even if this is only for the UK, I feel it is still a mistake.

Buyers who've driven Corolla's for years might find the "replacement model" a bit unnerving, as it doesn't have a reputation yet. The Corolla has built itself a solid reputation, the name sells it.

It says that only the hatchbacks will get the name change, the four door will remain named Corolla. We only get the four door. I think there won't be a name change here.

The Corolla Hatchback already has a different name, its called the Matrix.

There is currently no Corolla coup in the US so if it comes out it would be a different model anyways.

Only the hatch will have a name change. Toyota will dare not touch its Iconic Corolla name, it will be the stupidest decision ever.

we don't like the corolla here anyway, the other competition is better. corolla carries associations of dull here.

The Corolla in the US had stunning sales of over 40,000 units in the month of July alone. Quite why is beyond me - the Scion XA XB and TC are hipper, the Honda Civic and Honda Fit are fresher, The Toyota Yaris is pretty cool - so who's buying the Corolla?
