Wife Tracks Down Husband's BMW From the 70's And Has It Restored For Him
The delight was visible on everyone’s face. “To be able to get back behind the wheel of this car, which I owned in the 1970s and is now in perfect condition again, is just amazing. My wife managed to track down the model, which I was driving when I first met her, and gave it to me as a present,” says Michael Hilti. BMW Group Classic management were likewise very happy with the result: “The successful restoration of the BMW 2000 Touring with its output of more than 170 hp is further evidence that, together with our partners in the BMW Group production network, we are able to carry out major restorations at the highest level and tailored to the wishes of each customer,” commented Ralf Vierlein, Director Sales and Aftersales at BMW Group Classic.

A car from an era when BMW built real cars. What a nice wife.

As nice as the 1972 BMW 2002 Touring was back in the day, even todays base 128i coupe would run circles around it in virtually every performance and handling category..

It wouldn't take alot of money to change that. The car is far lighter than a 128i. An s52 engine swap, brakes, suspension and wheels and it would run circles around a 135i and destroy a 135i (both cars I really like). All of this could be done for around $5k or less depending on you skill and where you source your parts.

And it would be alot more fun to drive. probably is more fun even with the 170hp since there are no electronic nannies and the fact that it has a real throttle cable.
