Camry Seals The Deal Two Months Early On Top Selling Car Crown
Toyota says its Camry is certain to win the U.S. best-selling car title for the 11th straight year.

With slightly more than two months left in 2012, the Camry's nearly 67,000-unit lead over the second-place Honda Accord is insurmountable, said Rick LoFaso, Toyota corporate manager for car marketing.

"They couldn't catch us if they wanted to," LoFaso said.

More impressive, he said, is that the Camry will exceed Toyota's ambitious 2012 sales target by 15 percentage points. Originally, Toyota projected it would sell 360,000 Camrys this year. But LoFaso says Toyota should finish the year at 400,000 Camrys sold.

Through September, Toyota sold 314,788 Camrys in the United States, up 37 percent from the same nine months last year.

@cidflekken,

when Toyota first invent this family sedan it was meant to be reliable and affordable that could take their owners from point A to point B with a quiet and comfortable ride. It does serve their purpose and doing a really good job at it as well.

I own a Toyota when I was in college and I must said I love Toyota because I rack up to around 80,000 miles and all I did was the routine oil change and one brake light bolt and that was it. And good gas mileage as well.

I have own American cars as well and can't said the same about them but they're are getting better like the German and Korea cars. Give credit where credit is due.

Lexus, roger. Good car & Great sales, the car still lame! Good "reliable" transportation for the masses with no personality, just like my toaster.

009 - I thought your Hyundai Sonata was doing to put Toyota and Honda in their place. Or I guess it did do this actually, i.e. the Sonata's presence highlighted the Camry's and Accord's superiority to the Sonata and put them where they should in this "boring" and middle of the road segment, 1st and 2nd place.

....That's probably the Japanese Camry, which in Japan gets serious Lexus treatment. The Toyota's in Japan are Lexus level and a Lexus car or Suv in Japan is out of this world in refinement and power. Hear me when I say, a Toyota and Lexus vehicle is the worlds best made autos of all makers combined. Check'em out from Japan, dont take my word for it.

What a childish statement. Have you been to Japan? Keep drinking the kool-aid, that is exactly what they want. Because of people like you that cannot make their own choices, we have people like me (in Marketing) that can reap the benefits, sales, comissions and let's not forget, big fat bonuses.
Don't get me wrong but they are great cars but NOT the "best" as you claim. Obviously, you have not lived outside the U.S. in order to expand your intellect. Are you on your twenties? You need to expand your horizon and leave Cali.

BTW because they are the "bestes" that is why they have so few recalls.

Funny, the Hyundai Sonata sales dropped last month, probably a combination of having a 7 hear old design and the return of the King, Camry. I guess merely adding more LED lights doesn't do it for cheap-asses.

No wonder this joke of a website doesn't report Hyundai/KIA sales numbers anymore, they're laughable compared to a revitalized Toyota/Honda.
