BMW Recalls 45,500 7-Series Sedans For Roll Away Risk
People that have cars with an automatic gearbox tend to not use the parking brake because they think just putting it in park is enough.

For 45,500 BMW 7-Series owners, that might not be enough, since an electrical fault could cause the cars to just roll away when you think they're in park.

BMW is recalling cars from the 2005 until 2008 model years with the keyless start function. It seems that a fault in the computer will have the cars say they're in park, but in reality will be in neutral.

Wow. So, you might fly out of the car from the unlatched door, while the car is inadvertently rolling away.

BTW, thanks for posting these recalls. I have two friends who bought used 7-Series, and may not get the recall notices if their cars are affected. Will have them look into it.

BMW 7-Series owners must feel so safe knowing their doors might swing open while they're driving.

If that wasn't enough to worry about, it must be even more comforting to know your beloved 7-series BMW might not be there when you get back because it rolled away...

Contrary to 009's comment about "unintended safety feature", I actually think this is by design. As the car rolls away, the unlatched door will allow the driver and passengers to jump out of the car onto safety. Those German guys are amazing. Just kidding, I actually like German cars (MB, BMW and Audi in that order).
