Sandy to Cost Mercedes-Benz and BMW Northeast U.S. Sales
WASHINGTON (Bloomberg) -- Luxury-car brands such as Honda Motor Co.’s Acura and Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz will take a disproportionate hit from Hurricane Sandy, with as much as 25 percent of U.S. sales coming from cities in the storm’s path.

“The last week of the month is typically a big week in terms of new vehicle sales,” Larry Dixon, senior analyst for the National Automobile Dealers Association, based in McLean, Va. “Everyone’s trying to finish off the month on a high note. We might see October sales down just a bit from what everybody had anticipated.”

The New York, Washington and Philadelphia markets account for a quarter of Acura’s U.S. sales, 24 percent of Mercedes-Benz’s and 23 percent for BMW and Volvo Cars, according to auto researcher Edmunds.com.

Marykeana, the four brands mentioned in the article are Acura, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. BMW and Mercedes-Benz are the two clear luxury brands out of those four mentioned, hence the article title was changed to reflect their 'more thought of' luxury status.

That's not really your judgement to make, now is it? The article included Volvo and Acura as luxury models and many outlets consider them as such..as do many customers. Granted, neither has a full range of models to rival BMW and Mercedes, but the models they do have are considered "luxury" in their respective segments, no different than any C-Class or 3 Series or even E Class or 5 Series. There is a difference between "luxury" and "prestige" brands.

BTW, I live in one of the most high-status areas in this country, and I see just as many Acuras as I see Audi, BMW and Mercedes. And, actually, I might venture to say that I see more Acuras than I see Lexus and definitely more than Infiniti.

What will happen to all the thousands of brand new Sandy storm damaged cars that all dealers store outside in the weather.

There will be a "flood" of water damaged cars hitting the market shortly. All buyers must be doubly careful about buying such damaged vehicles.
