Nissan/Infiniti Sales Down 16% for July

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 1, 2006) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) reports sales of 86,408 units in July, which is a decrease of 16.2 percent from the prior year, when NNA posted its best sales month ever. While the Nissan Division saw a sales decrease of 16.0 percent over last year, the new Versa subcompact experienced strong first full month, with sales of 2,856 units. The Infiniti Division posted a sales decline of 18.1 percent versus the prior year.

NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS
· July sales for Nissan-brand vehicles of 75,860 units decreased 16.0 percent on a daily sales rate basis when compared to last year with 93,905 units sold.
· The new Versa subcompact was off to a good start with sales of 2,856 units.
· Maxima, significantly redesigned for 2007, posted a sales increase of 10.9 percent versus the prior year.

INFINITI HIGHLIGHTS
· Sales for Infiniti were down 18.1 percent with 10,548 units sold as compared with last July’s 13,395 units.

NNA INFORMATION
· Combined July sales for Nissan and Infiniti totaled 86,408 units, a 16.2 percent decrease when compared to last year with 107,300 units.

At leat it is only 1/2 of Ford's loses. I guess for Nissan last July was too good.

I didn't know that the Maxima was "significantly redisgned." Looks like the old one to me, save for the CVT that is now being advertised. Once Nissan adopted the coupe-shaped sedan from VW, it wasn't letting go.

A lot of the sales decline was an over dependence in the gas guzzling SUV sector for Nissan (sounds like GM?) Sales of SUV are off 25% for both line copmpounding the lack of new models in the auto lineup. I expect the auto sales to rebound to break even this year for them as new models hit the floor, but the SUV's will still suck air.

Wait til they release (or shall I say "unleash") the Infiniti G35 Coupe (concept) this fall/winter. Sales will bounce back.

The infiniti sedan will be release this fall followed by the coupe next year.All in all the line up will definitely spice things up for nissan.

Infiniti should be really worried - they have lost momentum. The FX is overpriced with a nasty cheap interior, the Q45 doesn't sell, the G35 is getting hammered by competition from BMW and Lexus, the M is the only diamond and it can't carry the marque.
