Paris To Ban Classic Cars And Vehicles More Than 17 Years Old From Inner City

Under proposals presented to the city council on Monday, Socialist mayor Bertrand Delanoë intends to outlaw by September 2014 the use of cars and utility vehicles more than 17 years old and lorries or buses more than 18 years old.

Motorcycles built before 2004 will also be forbidden, as the mayor said they were the "most polluting and noisiest".

The "old banger" ban will apply to all vehicles inside the A86 motorway that surrounds the French capital.

If I had a 17 year old car that I'm forced to get rid of, I would demand that the gov't buy me a new replacement car. I jest, but I cannot see this ending well.

My daughter and her husband recently went to Paris on their honeymoon. A highlight of the trip was a guided tour of the city in an old 2CV. It was romantic in its own special way and they will never forget it. That Mayor has no soul!!

One more stupid move by another stupid "Major" (major stupidity, that is!). Here in Mexico City, our major (an undisputed champuion in stupidity) has been reducing the available street lanes, to dedicate them to passenger buses and bicycles (although there are very few bicycles around). In a main street here, he ordered to reduce from 7 to only 3 lanes, while ordering building stupid concrete islands with flowers -pretty until you realize the car traffic is stalled for miles-
Citizens need to stop these stupids now!
