Talk About Clout: Chinese Parking Lot Reserved Only For Audi Drivers
An Audi-only parking lot seen in the gigantic underground parking of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital Airport. It might very well be a marketing ploy from Audi but maybe not. We asked a guard and he said the owner of the lot wanted to make more money by offering space for specific brands, and Audi happened to be first. Cars from other brands are not allowed to park in the Audi area. Customers, so the guard said, were very pleased with the new service. Next up is BMW, then Benz. No plans yet for Chery or Geely.

Don't Chinese bigwigs in gov't drive Audis? Makes sense to target Audi if they sell the most and you make the Audi owners feel special in the process so they'll probably pay more for believing their special.

They did, new rules stipulate that they have to use domestic brands. Though I am sure plenty of them still drive Audi's.

So each government person gets 2 cars? 1 domestic one that sits and rusts and the import that the European one they really use?

Little things tell you a lot about a culture...this shouts exclusivity (only for us), exclusionary (you are not wanted here), elitism (we are somebody), power (we do it because we can), wealth (we can afford to do anything we want), and snobbery (we are better than you). Mark my words, the arrogance of the Chinese elite and the access provided to the masses via the internet will be its undoing, hopefully into a more open society.
