VIDEO: Mercedes-Benz TEASES It's Updated E-Class' Lighting Tech
Ever since BMW and Audi pioneered uniquely styled headlights, the industry has taken notice. While Audi essentially made all of the luxury makes switch to LED accent lights, we do have to give credit where it's due.

BMW was the marque that took the concept of stylized corona rings -- a.k.a. "angel eyes" -- made sure the E39 5-Series was equipped with them. While Mercedes-Benz has made some effort here and there, it seems to be making a BIG push as of late to come up with a unique lighting take.

From the looks of it, the "refreshed" E-Class may be the product that ushers in a new wave of style.

A look inside the fascinating technics used to create the new Mercedes-Benz light design.

Completely disagree, those lights look phenomenal and will help solidify the E class at the top of the sales charts.

For the record, Mercedes was not late to the game in the department of headlights as the W 210 E Class introduced the 4 oval eyed headlight treatment in the 90's which was then copied by Lexus (GS) and Jag(x type)

They are now using LED's in a way that compliments the brand without diluting it

Yawn...Benz lost its mojo 2 decades ago.. Jag has had 4 oval headlights since the original X and xj in the 60s. BMW angels eyes were awesome..and Audi's LEDs have revolutionalized the whole industry to the point where most things out there look like a bad copy... This ad is weak... a basic modification of Audi's Light designs....How is this a tease? See video immediately below from 3 years ago to get educated and then A8 from late 2010

I think the lights look great. Are they following a trend? Of course. That's what automotive design and engineering is about. Mercedes has been a leader of many new technologies and/or design trends that others have followed, as have many other car companies. Let's not forget that MB basically introduced an entirely new car segment with the CLS, that others have followed.

Oh, and "Benz lots its mojo 2 decades ago"? Please. Benz did lose its mojo about 10-15 years ago with the quality debacle, but got it back and then some. All of its cars are highly competitive in their respective segments, from the C to the SLS, standard and AMG/Black Series versions.

True that every other car maker copied AUDI's LED lights, cause the principle AUDI used, is cheap. And on top of this, no manufacturer stuck to a certain design for their lights. Even AUDI uses different shapes and positions for their LEDs front and back, some of them being plain ugly or cheap looking.

Before AUDI started the LED frenzy, BMW used fiber optic principle for their "angel eyes" and tail lights in 5 series. What I like about BMWs approach is that they kept the same accents over time. Thank god even Bangle used the round "angel eyes". The other two manufacturers that would have had the chance BMW took, are Jaguar and Alfa Romeo.

Mercedes and SAAB were using BMW's idea, here and there. SAAB, I think, even used CFL for the "eyebrows" on some model, which looked really nice.
