Who Do You Want To Win, Italy Or India? As The Aston Martin Bidding War Counts Down
Aston Martin, purveyors of fast cars to a fictional British spy and to real-life billionaires, could be partly owned by India's Mahindra and Mahindra  by the end of the week if the Mumbai tractor moguls have their way.

But much is unclear as the British maker of James Bond's sports cars, its Kuwaiti owner and a rival Italian bidder keep their own counsel. "There are a lot of moving parts here," a person with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Monday, adding the Mahindras hoped to strike a deal this week.

The source told Reuters that an initial 40-percent stake could rise to 50 percent for a total price unlikely to top $400 million.

Italy-They have an in with Mercedes technology. That's what Aston needs. Does Mahindra have the marketing and commitment that Tata has for Jaguar?

India--it'd be fitting payback for colonialism.

India. Badge of pride like the legendary Aston for an up and coming country means the focus will be on "perfecting" the brand, investing whatever it takes to make this work. An Italian investment group will look at Aston more as a business that they will immediately unload when inconvenient challenges arise.

Mahindra can license the necessary technology from BMW/MB to fill in the gaps needed to make Aston technologically competitive. It's going to cost $200,000 per car anyway, what's another $10,000 in licensing fees per car to have the latest and greatest features? From electronic suspensions to turbos to high performance engines, this is going to be good times for Aston.

How did it work out for Land Rover and Jaguar...oh yeah, much investment, new model rollouts, adherence to heritage, management
autonomy and positive culture. Love Italian style and flair but India gets my vote from a management brand development standpoint.
