LA AUTO SHOW: MORE Photos + DETAILS As 001 Snaps Pics Of The BMW i3 Inside & Out

We've watch BMW develop its Project i from nothing into something. Finally we're starting to see both the i3 and i8 make their way closer and closer to production. More or less, it's been like watching a child grow up.

Slowly but surely, the Project i cars are almost ready for the show.

Seeing its debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show is the i3 Coupe Concept. Painted in an orange and accented with black bits here and there, there's no questioning that this electric vehicle is a BMW. After all, it features the now iconic kidney grilles.

Where things get really interesting is inside. Note the very sleek and minmalist design? I love the floating navigation screen and matte-finished wood trim. Other details to note: That stalk with the gear selector has been seen on prototypes undergoing testing, as has the instrument display situated on top of the steering rack.

Year after year, concept cars continue to demonstrate for themselves how they are a hilarious waste of time.

Each so expensively handmade, gawked at for a couple weeks, then totally ignored. Like living room furniture.

Does BMW really expect us to believe they would actually allow any of the overhanging electronics, hard spots, creases, crevices, and misc. clunky jutting pieces in that ridiculous dashboard to be realized in their production vehicle? For god sakes, why do auto executives continue to permit their concept production staffs to sculpt such nonsense?

The few which make it through to production are nothing close to what they manage to glue together.

Folks have gotten pretty tired of this bait 'n switch.
