LA AUTO SHOW: STUD or DUD - Is The All-New Porsche Cayman As Good Looking As The Boxster?
At the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, probably one of the bigger debuts was the Porsche Cayman. Though it's more of a niche ride, I think Los Angeles was the right place to debut this two-seater, fixed top coupe.

While some people have given the Cayman some unflattering nicknames, if you've driven one -- hard -- then you know that this is likely one of the best driving cars out on the road. With its mid-engine set up and predictability it's an incredible amount of fun since it can be driven at 10/10ths all the time.

But one question remains: Is It as good looking as the all-new Boxster?

When the all-new drop-top was revealed, it came out to much funfare and love from design nerds. Will the Cayman -- it's slightly more awkward-looking sibling -- benefit from the same treatment OR will it become the red-headed stepchild?

That maybe a bit of a stretch, when these are available:

M3
Corvette
GT-R
Noble
R8(if you're a good haggler)

Not as sexy as the Boxster, but still a stud...it's a Porsche.

Agree with you, dbtk. Waistline appears too high or perhaps it's the detailing that is lacking but it makes it look more 'boxy'.

Moreover, one of the true Porsche touches was the roofline slope in the back. It used to have an 's' curve reminiscent of the 917 tail. Now, it appears to sit somewhere between a 350Z and an AM V8. Both are nice cars but it's not quite as distinctive.
