Volkswagen Unveiling Passat-Based Three-Row SUV At Detroit Show
Volkswagen's head of global design has revealed the company's seven-seat crossover will "most hopefully" debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Speaking with journalists at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Klaus Bischoff said the model's off-road ability will not be as strong as the Touareg but "more than good enough to compete." He also added, "It's an SUV in the European way – in the Volkswagen way."

If the Toureag is any indication, this thing will be too expensive to sell in volume, funny since the Passat design was to lower the price unless the plan on making this new SUV cheaper than the smaller one.. Pic above looks nice though.

Being built on the Passat chassis and manufactured in North America (probably the US) will make the price far lower than the Toureag. In fact, I would expect this to be about the same as my loaded Tiguan, probably slightly higher with a diesel.

And if it has a diesel, my Tig will be traded in immediately.

Looks as if VW took the metal body stampings from current BMW X5.

Just an artist rendering though the X5 is not a bad formula for crossover design, still probably the best looking current BMW. But this is a reasonable depiction as it looks like a bigger Touareg with some more sharpness as in the Passat. We'll see how close this was in a month.

Seven passenger seating in an SUV has simply not been available from VW. This model has tremendous opportunities if Volkswagen prices this properly and offers the consumer desirable options at an affordable price. The seven passenger from VW is past due. Put the over-priced Routan to bed!
