LA AUTO SHOW: 001 Gets A CLOSER Look At Fiat's 500L - Is It A STUD or a DUD?
One of the bigger debuts at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show was from Fiat. While their fashion accessories with four wheels have been highly coveted for their fashionable look and driving experience there comes a time in a brand's life where they have to expand.

That means literally in the sense that the Fiat 500 needed to get bigger. But how?

From the looks of the 500L, it appears that Fiat took a page from MINI's playbook with the Cooper Countryman. Now Fiat lovers who may have been put off by the cramped quarters can breathe a sigh of relief and stretch out in a properly useful rear seat. That means more headroom and legroom.

Fiat is taking a page out of the Mini play book. I think that is a smart move. As for looks it's an SUV/CUV. Very few of these vehicles I would call actually good looking. The 500 L is about average. It is neither a stud or a dud. I think it looks better then the Mini Countryman. Further it is more roomy, easier to see out of, comes with a higher standard engine package for the base car and will most likely cost less then a Countryman. The only thing I can see missing is AWD.

With the 1.4 turbo and it looks like a six speed manual, this should be a winner. Reliability has been good with new Fiat 500. I'm ok with a poor man's mini and I suspect so will others.
