Stud Or Dud? BMW's 2013 3-Series Gran Turismo Caught In The Buff!

Stud Or Dud? BMW's 2013 3-Series Gran Turismo Caught In The Buff!
Like it or not, BMW will be launching a new mid-size hatch with the form factor something along the lines of a smaller 5-Series Gran Turismo.

Whether it will be called the 3-series Gran Turismo or come as a new model, remains unclear. Whatever it's called, this is what it will look like.

If this doesn't get the same amount of deserved bashing as the Honda Crosstour, there is no justice in the world!

Rear of the Crosstour looks like a mid 1960's AMC Marlin with the tapered in sides. This at least has a better ooking rear. Side views however ........

I actually like the 5Gt and think they have a nice look in person, and to me this appears to be an improvement. The retractable spoiler on the rear is a nice touch.

BMW,keep it simple. A 5 and 3 Series station wagon will do. Stop wasting time, energy, and money on the "GT" line. Maybe BMW research/marketing knows something we do not.

I do not understand the purpose of this car or who the targeted demographic is supposed to be.

if they made a 4 series grand coupe that would be awesome. The 6 series grande coupe is gorgeous. Best example of this styling trend (panamara, aston rapide, VW CC, MB CLS). I'm sure it would sell better than a 4 series GT

DUD! I thought the 5GT was terrible...this takes the cake, They are making a 4 Grand Coupe...that will offset the 4GT...this has to be a ploy in the race to move units. Hideous looking.

BMW fails to realize creating new models to fill every niche possible is not a good strategy.

BMW thought they had a buyer for the 5-series GT, but the 5 GT turned out to be a huge sales disaster. BMW obviously didn't learn its lesson and continues to create cars for niches it believes exist, when in reality the demand for that niche is far lower than BMW predicted.

In the end BMW's costs will rise and sales will be far less than expected for this 3-series GT. EPIC FAIL.

These models are popular in Europe, and especially China. Obviously not so much with the 18yr old car site crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the BMW Crossturd. While this may sell well in Europe and China (which is probably its target market in the first place), in my opinion the styling won't cut it in the American market. It's not just terrible, it's terribad.Dud.

Dud personified. BMW, I'm afraid has lost it's way.The 6 Series Coupe and Grand Coupe are the best looking in the BMW lineup but that's not saying very much.BMW has not had a really attractive vehicle since the mid 90's. These 4dr hatchback hachet jobs are an abomination. Their feeless servotronic steering and all their electronic doodads they have on their cars now are very appealing to the mainstream public. Unfortunately it's no longer the ultimate driving machine.

BMW must like selling turd looking vehicles.

First the 5 GT and now the 3 GT.

BMW will once again have a sales disaster on its hands all while further diluting "The Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan.

Their new motto should be "The Ultimate Turd Machine"

The driving dynamics went off the rails and now the design is following suit.

Couple of thoughts. Hatchback sedan is much more popular in Europe so I think the genesis behind the 5GT and this car reflect that market segment. Having said that, BMW just don't know how to design hatchback sedans. To be fair, not too many car makers know how to do that well either, with the exception being Citroen. In short, it's ugly, no excuse, no qualifier, just plain old ugly.

Well, it's not as ugly as the BMW Aztek…I mean, 5GT. But it certainly isn't a looker, either. To think that there is a market for this type of car is baffling. Sure, if small SUVs didn't exist, I might be able to see it, but they do exist and are much better looking and provided much better utility.

Looks like a reincarnation of a 1966 Dodge Charger with a BMW emblem on it. Really!

While I know the 5GT is not selling well I love mine because its built on 7series chassis making it very roomy, its practical and they are giving huge discounts to move model. The three series GT however is no larger than other 3 series and thus doesn't provide greater space or value than 3series wagon. Development money would have been better spent elsewhere.
