BREAKING: BMW To Rename 3 Series Coupes As 4 Series Models

BMW, in a major marketing shift, is renaming the next-generation 3-series coupe and convertible the 4 series to create more exclusivity and command higher prices on some of its sportiest, high-volume models.

The 4-series coupe is expected to go on sale in mid-2013, followed by the 4-series convertible in the fall, the company said today.

They will be joined by the X4 crossover that goes into production in Spartanburg, S.C., late next year and hits U.S. showrooms in early 2014. BMW also markets a Z4 roadster.

"...to create more exclusivity and command higher prices on some of its sportiest, high-volume models."

How much higher are these prices going to be compared to the outgoing 3-series coupes and the competition?

BMW better not pull another 6-series Gran Coupe pricing structure and price the 4-series much higher than the Audi A5 and Mercedes-Benz C350 Coupe.

what a stud... Doesn't seem like breaking news since it has been talked about for months to be renamed the 4 series... Wished they would mount the seatbelts in the seats, the extenders to bring the belt forward to the seat are cool for a few minutes but can get irritating (I am speaking from experience having had the 3er Coupe for three years.)

Beautiful. Sometimes in the "tone down" of the production vehicle, factories omit the styling essence that made the concept so stunning. BMW would do well not to stray to much from the styling of this concept.

Does that mean we'll have a M3 Sedan but a M4 Coupe/Convertible? Love the look of the concept but don't see the point in changing the name.

BMW appears to have smartly decided to up their game as other marques copy and infringe on the BMW style and engineering.
I just hope they don't price themselves out of the market and make their cars out of most American's reach.

51% of Americans are on welfare and are not capable of surviving themselves without becoming parasites of the state and government.
