The Commodore will be sold in the US from next year as a performance sedan and now it seems the ute will follow soon after.

It should sell well if there is a V6 option.

I saw a 4 door pick-up version of this here in NC a few months back. Custom GTO or something?

They need to bring the Commodore 4 door (pontiac G8) as the new malibu and Malibu SS and the Holden Caprice (Caprice PPV) as the Impala and Impala SS. The Maloo Ute could be the El Camino. GM would then dominate sales once people saw that they had a midsize and full size RWD car with a V8 option. The El Camino would br great for those wanting a pickup but won't be towing a huge trailer or hauling a full bed of gravel or rocks and just wants the utility of a pickup with the handling and fuel economy of a car. add a small V6 diesel option with 250 hp and 400lb/ft torque and 30 mpg and youd have a winner.

One of the problems with the Pontiac GTO was that Shipping from Oz turned out to be much more expensive than the "bean counters" had projected...Giving the GTO a higher window sticker than had been it's "Market Entry Point".
Holden's engineers are some of the best (if not THE best) that GM has....Just hope that this time a falling US Dollar (relative to the Australian Dollar) doesn't kill this
