2006 Total Quality Winners. What is this GM leads more categories than any other company.

Does make a difference?

Some interesting results. I'm curious to find out what, exactly, is tallied in "Total Quality."

"Small multi-function vehicle" is not a real category though. That's a small SUV, a category they already have.

I'm surprised to see the Vue on that list.. Especially considering the Consumer Reports take on it...

"The Vue has light steering and the AWD system is slow to engage. Interior fit and finish are sub-par, and the front and rear seats lack support. A Poor in the IIHS side-crash test when tested without the optional curtain air bags and tip-ups in government rollover tests are negatives."

Ouch. So, good "Total Quality," just don't hit anything. Or sit in it. Or turn too quickly. Or drive it... or... buy it.

The recent slippage is probably good for GM. I think competition in their case will actually make the a better company in the end. They've needed to change their motives for sometime now and actually put that insane money they (used to) make back into building better products. They have the resources to dominate, if only it could be organized and utilized.

So what? Quality to them may mean something different than what it means to us... Maybe cheap plastic interiors is better than good interiors...

Consumer Reports hates US cars. End of story. GM could make the best car known to man for a fair price and consumer reports would complain all day. A few months back consumer reports said the chevy aveo averaged something like 23mpg.

If you haven't read any cars magazine, you should check out "Motor Trend", "Car & Driver", etc. And you will notice then that Consumer Reports doesn't hate US cars. Instead, they unanimously put in perspective GM stupid "rebadging" theory and the stupid "rationalization". Whenever you take your time to read those magazines, (yeah... in any Borders, or Barns & Noble you can read them for free) you will then agree with me, and the rest of the members of Autospies.com

P.S. As a matter of fact, they worship the Chevrolet Corvette. But, not because it's a GM, is because they know it is well built because it has always been engineered far away from the GM's stupid cheap cost saving techniques. And if they applied that technique with all the other vehicles they make, they would have never had a crisis like they have today.

I don't really understand the Strategic Vision study, which of the following is true?

a.) The study reflects which vehicle's owners are the most smug [how come no Audis on the list?]

b.) The study reflects which vehicle is the most reliable [oh there are no Audis on the list]

c.) The study reflects which vehicle is the most fun and has the best design [oh there are no Audis on the list]

Seeing how you seem to be an engineer (such as myself) who understands technical problems and someone who has such great ideas, maybe you should present your ideas to GM. I'm sure they do not have people like you around to inform them how to design cars. Lord knows they haven't done it for a near century.

I'm not going to stand here and say GM hasnt made INCREDIBLY stupid mistakes/decisions, but every time I read CR they just belittle anything American (except the corvette). I have had German, US, and Japanese cars. The US cars have given the least problems AND, both of the US cars I am referring to were built in 1993. One is a GM and one is a chrysler, NO rust, NO mechanical problems. My Nissan from the early 90's always needed body work every spring and occassionally needed mechanical work.
