SPIED: BMW's Active Hybrid Tourer Comes To Life In Production Form - NEW Shots
Remember the BMW Active Hybrid Tourer from the 2012 Paris Motor Show? Neither did I. It could have to do with it being one of the silliest BMW concepts in years, but with the Bavarian icon chasing every niche segment that isn't nailed down, what do you expect?

It appears that the AHT will be seeing production as what Autocar is calling the 1-Series GT. Considering every other GT BMW has produced has had limited success -- actually, no success -- things aren't looking so good; however, maybe it will surprise everyone?

BMW
appears to have redesigned the forthcoming 1-series GT since the last test cars were seen on the streets of Munich earlier this year. These pictures of the car show a vehicle with a new glasshouse, incorporating a front quarterlight missing from the original vehicles, and a more steeply rising waistline.

The changes are consistent with the design of the Active Hybrid Tourer concept seen at the Paris show in September.

Actually BMW's GT series are popular in various markets around the world...hence why they are expanding the range. Also the 1 GT has received a very positive response due to its clean lines, and innovative AWD ability...a petrol engine powers the front wheels, while electric can power the rear wheels when needed. I actually find the 1gt to be a very intriguing vehicle concept and would seriously consider one for a daily driver if it is brought to the US.

This seems to be the BMW version of the next Prius. Remember Toyota is in partnership with BMW to provide Hybrid tech to BMW and in return gets diesel engines for European Toyotas. Next Prius already announced to have separate rear wheel motors.

Didn't Toyota and BMW announce a partnership around June of this year? To develop a vehicle to the point seen in the picture above takes about 3-4 years....so I highly doubt this has anything to do with Toyota or a Prius.
