6 Underrated Cars

My take:
- Colbalt: no, still nothing more than a Caviler
- Crossfire SRT6: wow, that's a little pocket rocket with a nice MB based engine
- Mazdaspeed6: finally a 6 with a good engine in it! my biggest complaint about this car was the lack of a decent engine, no torque whatsoever, but with 274hp / 280lb-ft, even from an I4 that's nice.
- GTO: Got holden?
- Vue: Don't really have an opinion here
- Solara: If the just did something about the back i'd be in love.

The only one I really agree with is the Mazdaspeed 6.

The Cobalt is miserable, it's a Cavalier that is rebadged, and still as lame. D3WADE, what is your deal?

The Colbalt is very suspect. I drove one from Texas to GA and back to TX. On my way back it started humming. It only had 7k miles on it when I picked it up from Enterprise. Other than the humming, it got decent gas mileage and showed good power/response.

A family member has a solara w/over 100k miles. She's had no problems out of it. Not much power but very reliable.

My pick for the best of the sleepers has to go to the VUE. Although Saturn may never be thought of in the same way as Toyota/Honda, its a reliable brand. I don't have the figures but I have seen them and I have an older model Saturn with over 210K miles and no major problems.

What about the Subaru Legacy GT Sedan. It's very underrated. It's a def alternative to Camary, Accord. AWD, 250HP, built like a TANK! Subarus last FOREVER! Can give Toyota a run for the $$ in terms of reliability.

I just bought a 2004 Volvo V70R. 300hp turbo I5, AWD, gorgeous loaded interior, active suspension, sweet looking wheels with Brembos all around. "only" 3800 lb, but has good backseat room and of course the wagon cargo area. free maintenance.

The dealers are taking up to $10k off new ones. My 04 had a $44k MSRP, I paid $28k for mine with only 12k miles. nasty depreciation is sure sign of an underrated car! Volvo just doesn't know how to market it....

d3wade, what did i say that makes me a "hater". Additionally you need to do a little more research, the Crossfire is based on the SLK platform (German), the GTO is a rebaged Moderno (Australian), and the Toyota is Japanese, but the Vue is American (unless I'm missing something). So what relavance does either of your comments have?

isn't the vue made with honda or something? or is that another saturn vehicle?

i hate that it's so cheap in america. its 35000 pounds in the uk new, used like 25000.

Chevrolet Cobalt - I'd have to agree seeing as how much of an improvement it is. I guess it could use some work but it's worth considering.

Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 - I think it's too expensive...and everything is old in it. Isn't it based on the older SLK320? Visibility is terrible too, but it's stylish in roadster form.

Mazdaspeed 6 - I don't think it's been on the market long enough to consider it "underrated" and what-not. It's solely a boy-racer though...not a practical everyday sedan. Those in the market for these cars would probably go for something smaller...say a WRX or Lancer.

Pontiac GTO - For damn sure, this is definitely the most underrated car in my eyes. You get so much car for the money. You get a gorgeous interior, a clean body, and a mean engine all for the low to mid $30,000 range. It's a solid, relatively affordable, and fast cruiser. And it's "Monaro" not Moderno.

Saturn VUE - These actually seem pretty successful. They just don't make a big deal about it. The interiors nice, the styling is simple, and the V6 is a Honda engine.

Toyota Solara - I don't understand why it's here but I guess it's the last few of a dying breed. My dad considered the older one but he ended up geting an Acura CL. I don't see anything special about it...but I guess it's a good car.
