RENDERED SPECULATION: If Infiniti's Next-Gen G Looks Like THIS Will YOU Give It Two Thumbs UP?
One of the most important debuts set to happen at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show will be coming from the likes of Nissan's premium brand, Infiniti. And while there's been quite a bit of quibbling over the new nomenclature change and naming structure, I could care less.

That's because the all-new G is coming.

This is the vehicle that once took out the BMW 3-Series and was the car to beat for a period of time. When it first appeared as the G35 it wasn't all that impressive; however, when the marque stepped it up notch with the G37, it became a fierce competitor.

Having worn out its welcome though, it's been needing a serious update for quite some time. While the introduction of the IPL coupe and convertible bought it some time, it just hasn't been at the top of the leaderboard in a couple of years.

Now the first spy photographs have shown a G that seems to inherit some design cues from the big daddy Infiniti M, which drew some traits from the Essence Concept.

That said, the first rendering is in and we want to know what you think of this rough interpretation...

If the next-gen G looks anything like this, will you be pleasantly surprised or disappointed?

There's just way too much going on with this rendering. If they eased up that beltline crease, it would look much better (and less 3-Series-like). and they have got to do something different with that C-pillar. Too many generations with the same design (along with the Altima). I do really like the front-end treatment, though. Very aggressive and nicely done though the cowl is higher and the windshield rake is steeper than I'd prefer in a sedan. The A-pillar and the proportions of the hood look very 5-Series.

Bulbous hood, a la BMW. Overly stylized headlight, a la Audi. Weird body creases, a la Hyundai. Not my cup of tea.

The headlights on this rendering mimic the last gen 5 series...not so sure if thats a compliment.

This styling direction, and Infiniti's overall styling direction is not effective for a luxury marque. alot of Infiniti's lineup, if not all, looks dated quickly after introduction. If you don't plan on updating your models every 4 years, then more timeless design themes are necessary. I think BMW, MB, Lexus, and Audi create solid, timeless designs. Granted, BMW's designs might be redundant, and MB's CLS is an exception, but these designs can last for 6+ years and still look fresh with only minor updates. I don't think Infiniti's current designs will achieve the same, with maybe the QX being the exception. The M already looks dated. The J's D-pillar already looks gimmicked out. The FX is a fish that's seen its day.

The G coupe and the current G sedan did it perfectly, IMO, though I do think the original G coupe did it better and is still one of the most perfectly designed coupes ever.

...Porky Pig design again...Infiniti has got to get over and past the ugly Suv's and G model looks. That's the number one reason they have poor sales. It's the looks, it's the outward looks for crying out loud!

Wow, just realized the headlights are straight off of a Sonata.

Maybe I need to visit my eye doctor. I'm not seeing anything as awful as the comments suggest. :(

I kinda like it.
