Audi Responds To Criticism Promises To Differentiate Styling Better In Upcoming Models
Things are looking great for Audi: in the first 11 months of the year, its sales have already exceeded 2011’s total, recording a 12.7 percent increase and it’s nigh impossible to find a niche in which it doesn’t compete.

Alas, in their efforts to create a family look its designers have taken things a bit too far. In fact, in certain cases, it’s difficult to distinguish one model from the other, especially from the front…

It has been known for over a year that Audi will differentiate its upcoming exterior designs much more than it currently does.

Nice to see this message re-inforced by a senior Audi official.

I think if you pick ANY automaker, you will see a constant theme or specific lines that are the same for all of the auto companies. Ever see Chevy, Benz, and BMW car lines. They all could do better in differentiating between their models because they all have a definite shape/character within their respective lineups.

Ford does a great job of differentiating it's lineup.

Fiat is also very good.

BMW and Audi are the worse offenders.

It has nothing to do with "being lazy." And everything to do with lowering cost.

Sharing the same designs among several models is far more cost-effective than building a unique application for each vehicle.

I'm not so sure about that. I literally can't think of one exterior part on an Audi that is interchangeable. I know they may look extremely similar and especially from the front as the article brings out but they are not saving any money because from the headlights to the grille and all the other parts that strongly resemble are not identical. Perhaps you were thinking they were saving money in a different way than I'm referring to but if you are saying they are saving money from simply looking alike I don't see how that's possible. Explain if you will exactly how they are saving money by not "building a unique application for each vehicle".

i understanding about sharing parts, but when you see the 3 series on the road and notice that its just a smaller 5 series it makes you wonder, where is the talent..

This brand doesn't have the EMOTION. All audi cars are boring (and overpriced). You will not find passion in them. Nothing can change that.
