STUD OR DUD? New C-Class Hopes To Seduce 3-Series Buyers Away From BMW
The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-class will look far more dramatic than today’s model and be imbued with a big dose of sporting intent.

The fourth-generation C-class will also be offered with the latest in-car networked internet connectivity and cutting-edge safety tech. These features are part of a bid to endow it with a more contemporary standing than ever before to take the challenge to the BMW 3-series.

The new model is set to get its first public airing in just over a year’s time at the 2014 Geneva motor show. It has been thoroughly re-engineered with the express aim of attracting younger buyers.

Proof that a car design can be overwrought and dull and the same time. Let hope M/B does better.

As MB fan , I do not like that dropping line CLS style...also looks too big and also looks like the E class, I know is a render but is dud for me so far....

If they want to overtake the 3 series, they need a real transmission in it. The current 7 speed automatic shifts incredibly slow in manual mode.

MB's styling is in a completely different ball-park, and not in a good way. My bet is that BMW is safe from this "threat". Very safe.

BTW, I feel Mercedes has lost their way in terms of styling. They appear to be going through what BMW did during their "Flame Surface" era, which debuted in the 2002 7-series, and was left behind (for the most part) in the previous generation of models. Fortunately, BMW saw the error of their ways and backed off that blunder.

It just shows what happens when you want to be someone else: You also end up repeating their mistakes.

If this is indeed the new C-class, Mercedes-Benz has made a HUGE mistake.

Not only will Mercedes-Benz not catch the BMW 3-series in sales, but the sales gap will probably widen dramatically.

If this is M-B's idea of youthful they are way out of touch and should have their designers get out more often and talk to real young people.

Isn't this a broken record by now? How many times has MB tried to "catch the 3 Series" and "appeal to a younger buyer"? Seems to be the theme with ever new redesign.

As for this car..bleh. Luckily, as we all know, renderings rarely turn out to be reality.

Only thing that car is missing are LEDS surrounding the grill.

Haha spaces21, yep that's the 2015 Sonata! MB needs to just break down and introduce a 3-class if they really want to compete with the 3-series.

Steve..

That as on the 5 series E60 in 2003, not the 7 series..
The flame surface and the 'bangle butt' which was actually a copy off one of the Hyundai's at the time..

Having owned a 2011 E-Class, in Paladium Silver, I admired the fact that the design language was unbroken from stem to stern. The new e-class goes from crisp folds at the rear and sides to aan ungainly combination of curves and folds at the front. What by the way is that awful lower grill element below the center section of bumper? It looks like a bad version of a an electric fan blade cover from the forties.

I bet its going to look great in a dark color. Its different, and will grow on you.
At first I said no, but 5 mins later, it started to appeal to me. So, I say thumbs up.
