Volkswagen Readies 2015 Golf CC To Take On New Mercedes-Benz CLA
Volkswagen is working on an all-new four-door coupe version of the Golf, and it could wear the Golf CC badge.

The newcomer is designed to take on the forthcoming Mercedes CLA, and will be much sportier and style-focused than the sensible Golf-based Jetta saloon (which it will be sold alongside). While the CC will be available in UK showrooms, the big markets are anticipated to be the US and China, where cars like the Jetta are already huge sellers.

VW taking on Mercedes? Who's kidding who? Remember the VW Phaeton? Great luxury car with a premium price tag, but people couldn't get past the VW badge and Big Jetta styling, so unit sales were dismal.

If VW wants to go head-to-head with a premium brand like Mercedes, they should do it with a premium brand of their own, like Audi, which is already under their umbrella.

It's very clear that VW either considers the cannibalization of Audi sales to be acceptable or believes that Audi is established enough in the luxury market in the US that it can offer an A3 sedan clone with impunity. I don't believe the latter is true.

VW has a inferiority complex issues...Focus on your core platforms and let your premium brands tackle the other market spectrum.

You should have learned your lesson with the phat-one. People don't want expensive Vdubz -there is no prestige for the $$$ spent -only depreciation and country club humiliation.

The Tourag is as upstream as you should go. Ferdinand Porsche knew what he was doing with 2 different brands and 2 different market segments (excluding tanks and military apparatus). Schtick to ze plan!!!
