The first production car with scissor doors?

the 300sl had gullwing doors, does that count? 50 years ago though. but the doors are pointless. they're hard to access and imagine if the hydraulics broke! no driving, thats for sure...

I don't think scissor doors would be practical for an automotive manufacturer to consider. They would require more tooling, are more complex in their movements and provide less space for ingress/egress. I don't see a company developing these for mass consumption. Most car makers stick with just the basics or just the cheapest manufacturing process available. Probably the biggest obstacle is the safety issue. How would the doors operate if the car was flipped on its roof? Manufacturers usually play it safe. Although Toyota had a car with semi-scissors in production in Japan around 1991 but I can't remember the name...

This all about the looks and nothing else. I mean it is unique to pull up in a car with scissor doors.

I think the Infiniti FX would look pretty cool with the scissor doors. Their Triant concept back 2003, i think, had gull wing doors and was similar to what an FX coupe would look like, it was pretty awesome

Nissan 350Z and the Lexus IS would look cool with scissor doors. I think the Volvo XC90 would look awsome with gull-wings!

Toyota had a domestic compact car called Sera in the 90's. Which had a scissor door or gull-wing door which was a mass production car which went for about US$20,000. Picture is here is interested

I've heard of a few Seras gray-marketed in the U.S. and Canada. Pulling up in one of those must be a conversation starter.

I cringe when I see the typical rice-burner with lambo doors. So cheesy and ridiculous. It’s a 20k-30k vehicle people..........you can't polish a terd.
