Obama Administration Favoring Asian Hybrids Over Domestics For Federal Fleets?
President Barack Obama’s administration, which set a goal of buying only alternative- technology vehicles for its fleet by 2015, cut purchases of hybrid and electric models by one-third last year and bought mostly Asian brands.

About 54 percent of the 1,801 alt-fuel vehicles purchased by U.S. government agencies last year were built by Hyundai Motor Co. (005380), Toyota Motor Corp. (7203), Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (7211) and Honda Motor Co., according to data obtained under a Freedom of Information request from the U.S. General Services Administration, which coordinates most vehicle purchases.

First thing, I think the EPA test vehicles for official MPG ratings.
Maybe Fords Claims are correct on how their vehicles were tested. Ford vehicles and the chevy volt are amazing, but this is the first year of Fords top rankings on mpg. The volt was hard to come by. but there should be no excuse for the coming years. American car companies are gearing up for mass productions of hybrids. Good vehicles at that! very nice looking!

Hyundai Has to be still lying about their HP. Why is it My brother in laws Passat 2.0t only has 200hp but is faster than the sonata with 270+ hp 0-60 by almost 2 sec? Why is it that that BMW X3 which is heaver and has less power is about 2 seconds faster 0-60

Why is Uncle Sam buying Korean made cars? Should we be supporting our own "drunk and stoned" UAW brothers instead? What has this country come to?

What are you trying to get at 009? That Obama is betraying this country? I thought your Republican mantra is let the market dictate everything. Well, if those Asian hybrids are providing a good combination of value-economy-quality, shouldn't they get the contracts? Some of them are even made in the US. Or are you selectively discounting your capitalism ideology when it comes to Obama-slamming?

Gotta love those Koreans for devaluing the Won so they can sell at lower prices here and still bring home the same # Won. We whiteys love cheap and don't care if YOU lose your job as long as WE can save a buck. Why should Jesus be any different? No need to buy UAW crap now that the election is over and he bought, I mean, got, his votes from Indiana and Ohio.

HughJass, why did you change your alias? Did this site kick you out and you have to go through a different email/alias now? You're the same guy that use to refer Obama as Jesus and I think you're in Canada? You have this deep hatred for the Koreans don't you. Now to tell you the truth, I rate Hyundai and Kia pretty low and I do agree with you the Koreans have an extremely protected market but must everything be currency devaluation?

Part of Obamas campaign was against sending jobs overseas. That we need to keep manufacturing here and to purchase from American companies, But yet he is ok with this. Chrysler was forced by the courts to rehire a bunch of drunkin/high bastards because of UAW rules. The U.S. prints over 800 million dollars a day and that still dosen't pay the interest on the monies borrowed from China. The whole thing stinks.
