DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Infiniti Restyles An Icon - But Does The Exterior Of All New The Q50 Scream Performance Or Luxury To You?
Anyway you look at it the Infiniti Q50 is a pivotal vehicle for the luxury automaker. As much as everyone loves to point to the top end models, a solid foundation in the entry level ranks is what gives the automaker real sales.
After all if you are casting out a net, there are a heck of a lot more fish in the lower end of the market than the high end. Aspirational vehicles are where it is at and the entry level has to be a hit. So with the abandonment of the G moniker, did Infiniti take the time to totally rethink think their image?
Does the exterior scream performance, luxury or a bit of both?

Both but I wish would have bump the base model horsepower to 350 hp with 300+ lbs. ft of torque and keep the single LED stripe for the taillights verse this new one which is like a solid light line.

The design itself isn't too bad, really. But there are key elements that are practical deal breakers for me. That C-pillar kink and the interior. Pretty disappointing. I highly disliked when they went from the aggressive, perfectly designed G35 coupe (which, IMO, is possibly the most perfectly designed coupe under $50k ever) to the curvy G37 coupe. I like the redesign from the G35 sedan to the G37 sedan as it didn't go overly curvy. Now, with this Q50, that C-pillar gives it a very strong feminine look that I'm just not digging. I didn't like it on the JX and it has no place on a sports sedan.

So the Q is replacing the G? I thought they were coming out with a new flagship.

In sedan form it's much nicer prervious 2 generations. The waving sill lines help breaking down the mass and provide visual link between front and back of car, unlike IS that's dead flat, almost trying to break down the link between 2 ends. I think it'll look very nice personally on road.

And yes it's prefect blend of performance and luxury. Interior is not on par though.

Unlike the original Q45, this one is not pioneering in design relative to its competition. When the original Q45 came out, it was DIFFERENT. This one is clearly a safe approach and loses the spirit of the original Q45.

A nice evolution of the (formerly knows as) G-Series design. The front end and profile strike the right balance of luxury and sport. The rear, however, is far too derivative of other designs. Most notably Hyundai, which itself, borrowed from Audi. Seems like everyone is borrowing from the same template.

It doesn't have that classy conservative sport look I look for. Can't get over the Q designation. G had brand/marketing recognition and power. Also surprised they are not indicating engine size on the car.

Infiniti's styling has always left me cold, even though thye make great cars. Same still applies.

Nice looking car, good copy of a Mazda 6 from the side... but it is not really screaming luxury or performance... UMC (Uniform Modern Car)...
