AUTO SPIES USA EXCLUSIVE: Spies break the first real-life shots of the new BMW 3-series coupe!
The Spies are in the Bay Area this week testing the new BMW 3-series coupes. It is extremely attractive and much better looking in person than in photos. Here's an advance look of what's to come...

Very attractive.

Has a very classic charm which I just can't put my finger on, but I guess the very clean, athletic figure do it for me.

Will, I don't want to incite violence, but when someone loves the look of a car that, the world over, is known as bland, uninspiring, and frumpy, I must question their mental state. Or at least tell them to get a thorough eye examination. I was, of course, talking about the Lexus ES.

Now, back to a car that isn't scoffed at by the motoring community.

The Lexus does have a nice rear. I really like the front of this car better, it looks more 5 series-ish.

I'm not going to lie...it gives me a chubby.

Unwanted information, scott064.

Also, I feel sorry for you Americans who have to put up with those ugly orange side reflectors.

Some car manufacturers integrate them into their wrap-around headlights. However, orange is currently not in fashion so you have to be tolerant of those glued-on blemishes.

So much better than the coupe, the lights alone make the car. Awesome, good job bmw...this time.

you say it's blah, but in 7 years when the next one comes out, you'll say "the old one was so much better". i think it looks good, and the rear lights are from an 8 series, not some lexus that they don't bother with in europe. this looks good, purposful, much less girly than the old one did when it came out.

Is BMW the only manufacturer whose designs are getting worse by the model? The last generation 3, 5 and 7 were all better by far than their current efforts. And that is something even a BMW die hard fan has to agree with.

Thanx for the pix Agent 001. Good job BMW: the new 3 coupe looks excellent. I was not so sure at first when I saw the first pix but after seeing these I really admire the total design. By the way, the thickness of the steering wheel is great, too! I think silver is more flattering than blue....to each his own.

BMW does it again with another beautiful 3 coupe, it was worth the wait! Do we know when the first deliveries are? The silver car with the front left 3 quarter exposed in the sun looks sharp!

For those who believes the tail lights reminds them of the Lexus ES. Sorry guys you are all wrong. The original "L Shape" tail lights first appeared on the E46 model. BMW fliped the script and revereved the "L". The tail lights are an Upside down "L Shape". It's an extension to the original E46 tail lights.

Also I like to add....if you think this car is hot. Wait until see the 335i with the M-Sport Package!!

I think it looks awesome, the designers carried over some of the e46 styling.
If you don't like it don't buy it, just admire my 335i when i am passing you on the highway

Hmmmmm...Front end is nice. Don't feel sorry for us Americans. For all we have we can live with the orange reflectors. The front fascia is not too bad. IS is better.

As for the tail lights BMW came up with the design way before Audi, Lexus or Honda. They came from the BMW 7 series. But I do like how the new Hondas ripped off the Audi tail lights.

I like it and will consider this for my next car. And the St. Regis Hotel was a good spot to show these cars....even though their 'official' car is a Bentley.

The car, indeed, looks very nice, however, I do question the styling of the taillamps. Where once BMW lamps were designed purposeful and distinctive, now they are derivative of everything else.

That's the one thing that separated BMWs in the past. Their uncompromising purpose was as a driver's car and the styling reflected that. That's what made the 2002 such a great car as well as the second and third generation 3 series.

Veeeerrrrrry nice car.

It's also nice to see Lexus used in a discussion without the usual flaming. I saw a black '07 ES on the road and almost ran a light it was so nice looking.

This 3-coupe is softer looking, which doesn't diminish its presence, but adds an elegance that doesn't hurt!

Very sporty-looking. Especially the front half. The rear still needs some evolution, but it's ok for now. Overall very appealing, very stylish, and very sporty. Now start working on improving the interior, BMW!

Will,

To clarify, I'm not a BMW fan. I Like Alfa Romeo's and Saabs, and I scoff at the Lexus ES. You may assume that is a bit kettle black, but whatever.

Just don't blame the BMW fans for not warming to Lexus, us Alfa fans are guilty too!
