GM Pushing Through Styling Updates For Lost In The Crowd Malibu
General Motors Co., seeking to revive sales of its new Chevrolet Malibu, is working on speedy design changes to the sedan to make it more competitive with other midsize models, two people familiar with the effort said.

Updates will make the back seat feel roomier and the front end will gain some styling cues from the new Chevrolet Impala, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private. The revamped version would reach showrooms in the third quarter, the people said. Swift improvements are needed to compete in the segment that includes five of the 20 most popular vehicles in the U.S.

Honestly the previous design was, by far, more attractive...

I don't get how a giant company like GM can fail to spend good money on good designers - it's not like they are pinching pennies on design. Unbelievable that they spend millions to come up with what is sub-par car designs. Is it so hard to spend a few million for good design consultants?

GM needs to redesign the entire Chevrolet line with increased emphasis on both exterior styling and better "synergy" between not only the interior and exterior styling, but also interior design and materials used.

Why does the entire Chevy line need redesigning? Exterior-wise, few car makers have a line of vehicles that share such family-destinctive queue’s such as grill design, tail lights, and so on.

In other words, Chevy’s look like Chevy’s and aren’t easily confused with other makes, despite sharing the same platform in some instances.

Not sure I agree with the exterior styling point either, though I am a bit more open to debate on it.

Yes they resemble Chevys, but the one should strive for more than a family resemblance. Chevy is a global company. As such, their designs should complete a global scale. Current Chevy designs are not even inspiring in the home American market.

Granted, in most respects, GM should not exist at this point in time. I say that not as a political statement, but to express that this lack of money is a major factor in why I find their design so lacking.

Hell, if Ford and Dodge can create designs for compact cars that are "fresh" and thought invoking, why can't GM.

It is more than styling that they are/need to fix. Many reviews thought this version was a step backwards. If they let out the true fix then sales would suffer even more.
