Ford said that the 2013 Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid electric sedan is capable of travelling 21 miles on electric-only power and could achieve 620 miles on a full charge and full tank of gas, comparable to what a diesel engine can achieve.

the complications inherent in repairs and replacement of the hybrid + battery system is more expensive than a simple diesel engine, not to mention the hit to performance and overall weight. Yes, it's quieter, but that's about it.

There is a bit more, instant response and torque, simpler/no transmission, no vibrations, much less emissions and trips to the gas station.

With modern systems there is no such thing as a simple diesel engine like that of a '78 VW Rabbit anymore. We are all at the mercy of former script-kiddies and big-brother overlords somewhere in the cloud. ;)
