STUD OR DUD? 2014 BMW X5 Shots Slip Out Into The Wild!

These are the first images with the 2014 BMW X5 ahead of its launch sometime this year.

The third generation of the German SUV codenamed F15 – has been spotted on a recently launched brochure of scale models made by Jadi Modelcraft. The photos were uploaded on the Facebook account of one of their dealers (Diecast Empire) and we get to see how the new X5 is shaping up.

I don't think that's the problem. All Bentley, Aston Martin etc pretty much use the exact design language generation after generation, and they still look good. The key is not about looking like the old one or changing everything, but to design it well. Sometimes it's much more difficult to break new boundaries within the same design language.

successful car companyies DO NOT 'cleanly break' with their past. their design languages EVOLVES yet people still clearly recognize them. for example, the 911 has been easily recognizable for DECADES and yet continues to improve tremendously with each generation.

Is this the X5 or X3?

I would have thought BMW could do better.

Great. And the glorification of anything BMW continues despite it looking pretty dowdy and not much different from the previous models. Yet not one single critical remark.

Look more like a bigger BMW X3 to me which is disappointing because I think the current BMW X5-X6 is one of the best looking full SUV out there.

Aside from the fog light it looks pretty good but not as good as the current X5 did when it came out compared to its competition back in the day.

Is it just me or have all automakers crossed into design territory where they can only tweak what they have without it looking "new"? Better, perhaps - but the switch from the Gen 1 X5 to Gen 2 was definetely more of a leap forward. Maybe it's because ALL headlights are jeweled, filled with LED's and powered by Xenon, ALL wheels are BIG, 17" or larger, ALL body styles appear long to the ground, ALL greenhouses "swoop" back in a coupe-like manner...?

What's next? I don't know, but I haven't seen anything special since the early to mid 2000's.

Maybe it's just late on a Friday and I should take another look in the morning.

For a pro-Bimmer site you're only a week late with these WCF had these out the beginning of the week...still a dissapointment though, they should have done more than a redesign.

Thats the whole point, it is a complete redesign. Sense, you make none.

I think it looks good and I bet it will have a commanding road presence.

It is not a Dud (it was always a good looking SUV) but it's nothing Special either (hardly any noticeable change).

trim shown not the M sport obviously so it's more subdued, I like the tweaked styling and can imagine the X4 will be a nice sportier version when it comes out...

Guess BMW believed the old X5 model was close to perfection. The new X5 shows only very minor tweeks and tucks. It is a very handsome vehicle. It has to be to do battle with the very potent MB ML350.

The X5 is good product for BMW but many folks are downsizing to their smaller X3 SUV if inside space requirements permit it.
