DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Toyota Reveals The Furia Concept — The FIRST Look At The Next-Gen Corolla
Leading up the Detroit Auto Show, Toyota teased us with an image that was quite clearly an LED taillight and a vehicle that was painted a very loud color. Now we sort of get what's going on here.

When the curtain dropped, it was an interesting piece for Toyota to give us a hint of what the next-generation Corolla will look like. Dubbed the "Furia Concept," it shows us where Toyota will be taking the entry-level entrant's design language going forward.

Of course you'll notice some similar cues seen from other recent Toyota designs.

Considering the Corolla is one of Toyota's top sellers, you probably should get used to seeing a product that resembles this.

Toyota's press release follows:

TORRANCE, Calif. – Toyota revealed the Corolla Furia Concept at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This exciting compact sedan concept hints at the styling cues consumers can expect to see on the next-generation Corolla.  The concept represents an exterior styling study by Toyota designers, and it builds on the brand’s product development priority to develop more dramatic, expressively designed vehicles.

“The Corolla Furia Concept is an early indicator of where our compact car design may lead in the future,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division. “It blends a heightened emphasis on dramatic design and modern elements of high technology to generate curb appeal that will surprise a lot of people.”

The Furia is designed around a theme of “Iconic Dynamism,” which uses pure and simple surface elements to create a confident, decisive and recognizable appearance appealing to more youthful consumers. It features a more provocative, dynamic interpretation of a compact sedan that displays a more stable, athletic stance with 19-inch allow wheels pushed to the vehicle’s corners with short overhangs to help emphasize its long wheelbase.

The Corolla Furia design includes a swept windshield, with a sloped roofline and pronounced fender flares, to help communicate a sense of motion even when the car is stationary. The aggressively styled front fascia, with a blacked-out grille treatment, helps highlight a pair of sculpted front LED headlamps that combine with the rear composite LED taillight assemblies to add a sense of advanced technology to the Furia’s impactful exterior. Carbon fiber accents adorn the Corolla Furia Concept’s wheel wells, rocker panels, and rear valance, which includes ornate metal exhaust outlet surrounds to add a sense of modern athleticism.

Front end needs to be changed. It doesn't look enough like a saloon car for my tastes. The orange color also needs to be continued over the entire car. The multi coloration with the grey trim does not appeal to me.

Looks like the new Dodge Dart from the front and a Honda Civic (European) from the A-pillar back. Dud.

I was thinking miniature Avalon from the front, side profile reminds me of the Accord from 2 gens back.

Not bad. Definitely more exciting than the current one but I'm sure they'll tone it down when it comes out.

I'm certain that the car will be toned down for production. The carbon fiber add on will be gone. The wheels will be smaller etc.In comparison to the currently Camry this is a dramatic improvement. Is it the best looking car in the segment. Probably not. However it is interesting looking with stricking features.Something the current model can only dream about. The current car has the same boring drive characteristics
that the Camry has. if this car is 85% accurate then Toyota has decided to make this car more distinct from the Camry. Let's hope its driving characteristics are more engaging then the Camry as well.I know that Corolla sells well but there is no harm in enhancing the drive experience.Chairman Toyoda stated that he wanted all future models to enjoyable to drive and own. Let's hope that he can continue the spirit beyond the Scion FRS.

Of course it will be toned down.

Most concepts are toned down in some respect, with exception of GM's latest...

Here Am I, Always pumped up about almost, and I say almost anything, Toyota and Upscale Lexus Divison makes. Yes Sir call me out and I surely wont back down from a fight! Jokes aside. Yeah I think most automakers have to rely on the popular vote and kinda ping pong off each other as it relates to their profit margins and to what the masses like and are buying these days. This concept has a lot of familiar designs and will probably change dramatically before it makes it to the production line. Still, It's a Toyota Corolla and expect it to bring in the cheese as usual.

Lexworld, I changed the picture because I looked terrible. This Corolla actually looks pretty good and as always it will be a big seller.
TTYL and enjoy the long weekend.

Not a bad looking car. Toyota made their version of a new Dodge Dart with a Honda Civic-like front end.

The hood/grill, cab-forward, and trunk/taillight lines mimic the 2006 Civic. It appears to maintain the practical interior dimensions while adding contemporary styling. I for one like the wheel/rocker/bumper cladding, it puts adds a durable surface where its needed and adds a nice looking contrast. I hope they resist the bad color match and aftermarket add-on look. They need to fast track its release and up their game in this non-hybrid segment. Civic is eating their lunch. Should bring their Valvematic to the US in this model.

The styling will probably end up getting watered down.
