Toyota Executive Says They May Move All US Bound Vehicle Production To North America

A top Toyota executive said the auto company might eventually make all of its U.S.-bound vehicles in North America, with no imports from Japan.

"Somewhere down the road" it's possible, said Bill Fay, vice president and general manager of Toyota's U.S. division.

He said there are no immediate plans to stop making certain models of North American-bound Lexus vehicles in Japan.

Toyota and other Japanese automakers have been shifting production from Japan to other markets in reaction to the strength of the yen in recent years. A shortage of younger workers is another factor.

Big mistake, quality will suffer! Hopefully, unions won't be involved.

topneuro, with all due respect, you appear to perhaps unintentionally, very ignorant. Do you understand that Camry, Venza and I believe Avalon are built in Kentucky? Tundra is built in Texas. Where are Kentucky and Texas? In the good ole USA! Is TMC in trouble financially? I don't think so. Why don't you research before you make fundamentally ignorant comments like that?

Among TMC world best seller (not USA) are Land Cruiser and 4Runner, assembly line quality control and Japan parts are better, Remember the pedals issue? All USA pedal parts suppliers, no pedal issue with japan part pedals. Remember the Avalon/Sienna/Camry oil gel problem? Remember the California Tacoma factory defects which culminated in the relocation Tacoma production to Texas? Is not by chance that Land Cruiser and 4Runner production has stayed in Japan.

Bring'em over boys, its the least you can do considering our military spends billions guaranteeing your safety. Win-Win arrangement, yes, but its still billions that could be spent somewhere else, like giving tax breaks to Walmart (I kid).
