Ford may sell brands? Is there any value there?
ASSESSING THE ASSETS. So what would Ford sell, and what could it expect to make? Considering that Ford paid $6.45 billion for Volvo in 1999 and the Swedish brand is in better shape now than it was then, it's likely that the value of the company is at least equal to what Ford paid. Volvo is difficult to value because the brand's products and operations today are so integrated with the rest of Ford. As of last week, its Mazda stake was worth about $3 billion. Those two brands together, then, account for about 75% of Ford's value today.

Did I read that correctly? Volvo and Ford's Stake in Mazda is worth 75% of Ford? Does it mean Ford, Lincoln, Mercury is only worth 25% of The whole Ford automaking business. Of the 25%, included there is also Jaguar and Aston Martin. Hmmm. If Ford sells all these brands, and they continue to slip, Ford will be worthless in say 10 years or less. Yikes! I say keep the brands and concentrate on making the Ford and Lincoln brands profitable. Close Mercury.

They should sell off Aston Martin and Jaguar to some Brits or "European companies" and concentrate on their House brands (FORD,LINCOLN). As for Volvo, Mazda, and Rover they can still keep it going. I think the British brands are looking real bad with Fords status right now. They need a bigger and better parent company.

Don't forget Land Rover. Ford needs to sell this brand off badly. My Supercharged RR Sport is the most beautiful SUV out there, but it is the biggest POS electrically and mechanically. I wish BMW had held onto it, and some iDrive tech got passed down. With a better reputation, Land Rover could become a very (fiscally) powerful asset.
