Infiniti Boss Confirms 2 Door Version Of New Q50, But BMW M3 Killer Remains A Long Way Off
Infiniti is rushing to expand its product portfolio, according to the brand’s global boss, Johan de Nysschen.
Following a discussion about Infiniti’s plans to increase its global footprint and brand awareness, de Nysschen outlined to CarAdvice how the company is assessing its product expansion priorities.

The Q60 – a two-door coupe derivative of the Q50 sedan shown at the Detroit auto show – is expected in 2015/16 according to de Nysschen, but potentially not before the release of other models that would fill higher-volume segments – read, SUVs.

“I think the coupe is an important part of the platform,” de Nysschen said. “Most certainly we are working right now on a coupe derivative of the car [Q50] … known at the Q60.

“But, you know, there are a lot of priorities for us.

Sure, but this is no GT-R.

"I thought the Nissan GTR already KILLS the M3."

- How much more does the GTR cost than the M3?

why does it sound a bit ominous for him to say "but, you know, there are alot of priorities for us"? Almost as if the coupe isn't seen as important to get to production. Personally, I think it's a mistake that they are waiting an additional 1 or 2 years to get the coupe out.

BMW always waits a year to release the new 3 coupe after the new sedan comes out, this time it's a 4 series. Infinti did the same with the 2nd gen G coupe, released in 2007 as a 2008 whereas the sedan was on sale in 2006 as a 2007.

The big question here is - will they still sell the G37 coupe along side the Q50 sedan in 2014?

Ghosn's mistake is not trying to be "flashy" with Infiniti models. The brand should cast a huge halo over both Nissan & Renault. Instead, the Infiniti brand is a quivering child forced to sit in a dark corner until a parent is ready (or willing) to deal with them.

I think Nissan put way too much funding into their electric cars, now they plan to skimp on the luxury end of the market. They played it safe with the new JX, but it's only really appealing to consumers who might want a larger option to the RX. Nissan/Infiniti needs a Jeep Grand Cherokee-killer to really be successful in the US. VW has recognized that & so they made the CrossBlue. Infiniti should have had a GT-R variant years ago - Nissan really didn't have to ask if anybody wanted - we kinda expected it. And when Nissan dragged its feet on something, it became clear that they never really fully considered it. Sad.

Classic lines and profile, but still very nice.

First off this dude that came from Audi want to change pretty much the entire lineup names for Infiniti cars and now wait now he wait us to wait 2 1/2 - 3 years for the coupe?

I think this is a huge mistake for them to wait that long to release the new coupe because BMW, MB, Audi and Hyundai is going to reap the benefit. I wonder if the next generation Toyota Supra come out before the next G's?

Infiniti should worry about Lexus and develop a Lexus CT and ES "fighter." I think the longer they use resources and engineers to design coupes and sports cars, Lexus is going to reap the benefit.

A BMW M3 killer remains a long way off for everyone.

If Nissan/Infiniti wanted to create a sport sedan and coupe that will destroy the BMW M3 performance it's very easy for them to it.

They have money, resource and experience to it. But right now it's NOT their number priority. Just look the Nissan GT-R it pretty much DESTROY all super cars in straight line, around the track and very good on gas mileage as well. There on one or two super sports car out there that can out perform it but cost way more money.

Lexus: Another way of saying what you're saying is, "I could beat you. But I just don't *want* to." Riiiiiiight ;-)
