Infiniti's All-New Q50 Squaring Up Against A4 And 3-Series — Will Feature Turbo FOUR And Diesel Powerplants
At the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, Infiniti debuted its all-new Q50 sedan. It was an important debut for a couple of reasons:

1) This is the first instance of Infiniti's new nomenclature.

2) This is the replacement for what is arguably the most competitive product it offers, the G-Series coupe, convertible and sedan.

In addition, the new Q50 will bring about two more powertrain options: A forced induction four cylinder and a diesel engine for the European market.

According to Johan de Nysschen, the head honchos are considering shipping the diesel Stateside but no word on what Infiniti needs to make that decision happen.

This is an interesting move considering Infiniti just axed the low-power variant, the G25, for the 2013 model year.

Infiniti will expand the powertrain options on its highest volume sedan to include a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a clean diesel for Europe.

There will also be an all-wheel-drive option for the Q50 Hybrid, according to Ben Poore, head of Infiniti for the Americas.

Q50 is the name for Infiniti's next-generation G37, the V6-powered sedan that represents half of the brand's U.S. sales volume.

Interesting, Q45 used to be their flagship model, now Q has been rebranded as the entry level one.

The Q will be across their whole brand, from what I understand...

Q50, Q60, Q70(?), QX50, QX60, etc

Well, based on Infiniti's recent success post 2002 and their failures pre 2000, I would conclude the G series has been their flagship. It saved the brand.

Too bad the turbo I-4 will be from Mercedes, which is really not very good.

Infiniti really needs to invest in a new chassis and powerplant. The FM chassis and VQ series engine is past long in the tooth.
