Chery: The cheap, cheerful, but UNSAFE brand!

If the little Chinese brand is planning to the U.S. they better clean up their act! I mean $19,000 for a "premium" luxury car?! Ever thought how unsafe that would be? Here are some pictures I found on some auto website! It disgusts me! There is no way that Chery's will pass the U.S. standards if they couldn't even get a rating on the EURONCAP scale! I would give that ZERO stars! It's worse than the new 2007 Chevrolet Aveo/Daewoo or what ever the heck it is!

I mean in the first place what kind of name is Chery for a car? Shouldn't it be Cherry? And when you want to spell the brands name in plural do you end up with Cherries?

The brands' emblem looks like an upside down Infiniti logo with a triangle instead of an arrow! You wouldn't catch me in one of these cars for sure!

What do you think about the safety that the cheap brand offers? Like seriously does the car even have airbags?!

if non of you speak chinese then don't assume its cherry. its the pronunciation of two chinese word, and its not meant cherry. when jap car introduce to US in 60, people feel the same way as you guys felt toward chinese car. when korean car intorduce to US in 90's, people feel resentment toward it. chery is only 10 years old company, and in order to get a better quality they are hiring consultant from car company from european, japan, and US. for example chrysler, Alpha Romeo, Mitsubishi are amount the few. another source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chery

that is a pretty bad crash result. there was something similar with another chery, a car imitating the vauxhall/opel frontera. looked exactly the same, got 0 stars.

i was just in china last month, and the newspaper said that a person was washing the SAME MODEL with a pressurized hose and the water broke through the sheetmetal...

OK people, you are getting this wrong! Chery coppies the Daewoo/Chevrolet Matiz which scored high on its crash test. Chery tried to copy them by adding different rear lights and a lame looking grille and calls it theirs. Chery's version got 0 stars!

One note about the 2007 aveo it might have hit rock bottom in safety crashes in Europe(1 star for passenger protection) but from what i saw in a magazine it got a score many car envy when it came to pedestrian protection 3 stars out of 4 (i think) when most got 1 or 2.Take for example the all new alfa romeo 159 that got only 1 star for pedestrian protection.
