CHICAGO AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: Where Did ALL Of The CRAZY Concepts Go?

CHICAGO AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: Where Did ALL Of The CRAZY Concepts Go?
With the 2013 Chicago Auto Show merely days away, we decided to tap into the AutoSpies photo vault and see what has come and gone in the years past. And, wow were we taken aback.

There have been SO many cool concepts over the years.

Though it was once known as the "truck show," to me it's pretty clear that the Chicago Auto Show has given a greater emphasis to sportier vehicles. I mean, if you check out the preview shots below, look at how many of these fascinating concepts have doors that flip up.

Speaking of these awesome concepts, what the hell happened to them all? I guess the Range Rover Sport two-door essentially became the Evoque. The hardcore Tii was really a preview of the 1M and the performance options you could get on the 1-Series, like the Recaro seats.

But what about the really interesting stuff that could have possibly been gamechangers, like the Chrysler Imperial — the Chrysler "Rolls-Royce" — the Dodge Rampage, Ford Reflex and Infiniti Essence?

Should these concepts have been built?

What say you, Spies?

I'm unbelievably disappointed at every auto maker out there. They have neglected our show over the years. Also, I have no idea who dubbed our show the "truck" show but that is ridiculous. We deserve debuts no matter what they may be just as much as LA's show or NYC's. The Chicago Auto also has more than 1 million square feet of exhibit space and NAIAS only has 700,000 or so. Don't know how big NYC or LA is but I'm assuming Chicago has them trumped too. I have no clue why we aren't on the map like we should. REALLY sucks.

To me the gold standard FAIL will be VW dropping the stunning microbus concept they showed in 2001. Instead, they rebadged the Chrysler minivan...and used the extra money to develop the Phaeton.
