CHICAGO AUTO SHOW: Do You Think The New Cruze Diesel Is The Threat To The Jetta TDI That GM Needs It To Be?
General Motors Co. is resurrecting the diesel passenger car in the United States, as it becomes the first U.S. automaker to take on German automakers offering diesel cars here.

GM will unveil its 2013 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel at the Chicago Auto Show today. It will go on sale this summer.

"We leveraged our global engineering expertise to take a great diesel engine from Europe and improve it to meet the stringent U.S. standards," said Gary Altman, chief engineer for Chevrolet's small cars. "We expect the Cruze to compete head-to-head with the German diesel, particularly the Volkswagen Jetta TDI."

The new diesel Cruze will get an estimated 42 miles per gallon on the highway

You get a lot more bells and whistles than in the Jetta. Idk how it will sell, but I think it could do well if their is proper marketing behind it.

More expensive than a Jetta. For about the same price the Jetta has Nav and sunroof, high end sound system, keyless start & fog lights. The Cruze has the ability to run high levels of Biodiesel (B20 vs B5) but at the cost of filling the urea tank. Personally I think it's a good tradeoff, but using urea they should have been able to get better mileage. The Cruze also has a better powertrain warranty.

It's really going to boil down to how it feels when you sit in it and drive. On paper the two cars are fairly even. And I'm a VW driver.

Diesel Engine in a REALLY Crappy Car...Rented a Cruze, Car has a "A" Pillar the size of an Elephant Leg, and the "C" Pillar isn't much better...Blind Spots abound. Plenty of headroom, that could be because the CLOWNS at the Lordstown Plant installed the drivers side seat bottom was at least 3 inches lower on the outside (door side) than on the inside.

A Diesel ain't gonna save this turd.
