Toyota introduces new Prius version and raises price

Just as the tax incentives for the Toyota Prius are slowly evaporating, the base price of the car will see an increase as well. Toyota Motor Corp. just announced it will raise the starting price of the 2007 Prius by 2.1 percent. A new Touring Edition version will also be introduced, sporting larger wheels and a stiffer suspension, to help boost sales. The increase in price for the base model is $450, to $22,175, while the Touring Edition will start at $23,070. While sales of the Prius fell 5.9 percent, it is still the best-selling hybrid in the U.S. Toyota blamed part of the sales decline on a lack of dealer availability and limited supplies of nickel-metal-hydride batteries used in the Prius. The 2006 sales are expected to at least match the 2005 sales total

Only thing good about this package is the larger wheels and tires. I think the Prius needed that badly. Wonder thought how Toyota will do this without reducing the mpg figures. From what I've read the reasons the tires are only 15' is because it favors fuel economy.

Sorry for Europe if their standards are behind N.Americas, and they support the Kyoto accord (kind of ironic). RX400h V6 is Super-ULEV, what's a Bluetec GL? One of my links says it just meets ULEV. The RX is cheaper, cleaner, and out performs the GL. Not to mention you'll never be driving around looking for a diesel pump.

The GL can go offroad and won't get stuck like the RX as soon as it begins to rain. *Devil Smiley*

Furthermore, you think SUV owners actually care about performance? The GL diesel is quick enough. 0-60 doesn't define a good car. And in SUV's, 0-60 is totally irrelevant to me. I care more about offroad and towing qualities.

The RX is a simple car with AWD that looks like an SUV.

Give me the more capable car anyday; the GL.
