CHICAGO AUTO SHOW: Does The New Tundra Look Like A REAL Truck Or A City Slicker Special?

CHICAGO AUTO SHOW: Does The New Tundra Look Like A REAL Truck Or A City Slicker Special?
We saw the new GM trucks for 2014, and the Ford Atlas Concept back in Detroit, and now the 2014 Tundra rolls across the stage in Chicago with the first redesign since 2007.  2007?  Did I read that right?  Seems like a life time for any vehicle to last that long, but then again if you have had success then don't mess with it, right?

The simple fact is, while Toyota's Tundra has been successful, it has not taken the market by storm as the fans thought it would.  The truck market is extremely loyal and a newcomer like the Tundra is going to have a hard go at it. However you have to start somewhere.

So the first place you look is going to be the outside.  Does it have what it takes?  Did they reach out and try to grab the market or rest on their laurels.  Does this truck say "I work for a living" or "I go to the home improvement store once a month"?

They find a way to screw this truck up every time. 1st Tundra was too soft, the 2nd gen (current) has probably the worst dash of any production vehicle and the ride is terrible. Now they take what was a questionable (but liveable) front end and rub ugly all over it. Not only that, they made it heavier (700lbs), didn't address the ride quality, improve mpg's or bring any new power train options. Disappointing offering in a segment that is showing major change from the domestic brands.

I used to think you were Smart, but now you sound like a dumb american.

The Toyota should be the only haevy carbon vehicle the government allows civilians to purchase (with a carbon permit).

Front dash looks like Toyota's take on the F-150 interior with the circular vents and the verticals on either side of the center stack. The wheel rims are F-150 designs as well.

The grill on the black truck looks killer, rest of the exterior looks clean without gimmicks. Toyota needs to be the leader in efficiency to match their success in cars.

Man! The more I look at this new Tundra the more it grows on me. I also found out they now have an even higher level (1794 Edition) and an upscale Tundra Platinum like the 55K Sequoia, which is one bad large SUV. TOYOTA HAS RELEASED THE KRAKEN!!!

Toyota is clearly rudderless and clueless in the big U.S. truck market.

When the new generation Ford F150 is released later this year, no one will even think of a primitive over weight, thirsty Toyota truck.
