Steve Jobs’ Vision Included An iCar - If He Succeeded How Would He Have Changed The Industry?
Apples visionary co-founder Steve Jobs final ambition before he died was to see Apple to dominate the roads with its iCars.

According to a report by Business Insider, the co-founder and CEO of the iPhone maker told associates he wanted to create an Apple car.

Jobs also reportedly told the Times, during a meeting prior to his death, that he wanted to ‘take on Detroit.’

According to the Daily Mail, longtime Apple board member Mickey Drexler, who is also the CEO of J. Crew, confirmed the report, saying ‘Steve’s dream before he died was to design an iCar.’

The industry would have not changed one bit... plus the IIHS would not let it sell due to poor safety ratings

Au contraire ! Steve Jobs would have knocked their socks off by only entering the market with a vehicle having major points of difference. If it had his name associated with it you could count on it being special. He could do whatever he wanted not having his authority challenged, not subject to committees endless interference and stock holders be damned...the results will be there. As for design he would have much to teach them about beautiful, simple elegance that's highly useable and nice to the touch. Too bad it will never be !

Well, like most Apple products, the manufacturing would be outsourced to a Chinese company, their competitors would supply major parts (Samsung supplies a lot of iPhone parts), it would be priced very high, there would be a lot of restrictions on what could be done with it, and the sales strategy would revolve around planned obsolescence.

Wow you guys need to dial back your medication. The angst against success in the marketplace is incredible. No offense but you sound like competitors who got their clock cleaned and are pissing on the grave of the guy who did it. Jobs was an autocratic maniac but he got the job done in the marketplace and made employees, stockholders and pensioners wealthy while changing the lives of millions in a positive way. Wow !

These are the boring rationalizations of people who must somehow feel inadequate--the ones who suggest that success is the result of someone's deficiency. They say things like: Japanese economy cars sell well because soulless people like to drive appliances; German luxury cars command high prices because status-conscious people can't see beyond the badge; and Apple products are desirable because hipsters only care about design no matter how few features they get. It would be too difficult to analyze why certain products hit their mark.

Hard to say. He drove an SL and prior to that a bunch of 911s, so he did have good taste. On the other hand that megayacht that just finished was disgusting...more like a modern art museum than a proper ship.

One thing for sure...it would't have a bungled iDrive controller!

If you want to drive a car inspired by Apple design, the closest you are going to get is a Tesla. Many of their employees came from Apple.

It would have had one pedal. It would have functioned both as a gas and a brake.
