The Feds Claim You Want And Need An EV, So Why Aren't You Lining Up To Buy Them?

The Feds Claim You Want And Need An EV, So Why Aren't You Lining Up To Buy Them?

January is generally a slow month in auto sales, as buyers and automakers offer incentives to close out the year in December, resulting in payback in January.

This was particularly true for plug-in vehicle sales, as many buyers bought in December to qualify for tax deductability on their 2012 return. While overall sales declined 23 percent from December, plug-in sales declined at a 39.5 percent rate. However, when compared to January 2012, plug-in sales grew significantly more than overall sales, although the absolute volumes were modest.

In December, plug-ins represented 0.57 percent of total sales. In January, this rate declined to 0.42 percent, which was above all rates prior to September 2012.

The Nissan Leaf will be limited in the first quarter given curtailed supplies from Japan and Tennessee, which will not ramp up to “regular” volumes until March or April.

Volt volumes were down due to both product availability and incentive activity in December that pulled sales ahead.

Nothing to do with the FED.
ICE vehicles available in all states.
Diesel vehicles available in all states.
Hybrid vehicles available in all states.
EV vehicles available in only few states.

EV vehicles SUCK:
1. terrible for long commutes due to short travel distance before charge
2. terrible acceleration
3. terrible handling
4. impractical size for families (can only be a 2nd or 3rd car)
5. if your frugal, just buy a cheap Honda Fit for much less.

Like the Feds really know what we want, what we need.

because we're still subsidizing oil in the form of direct subsidies to the petro-chemical industry, as well as the $900,000,000,000 spent every year under the guise of national defense (we can debate how much goes to defense, and how much to resource allocation, but it sure isn't 100% defense).

Electric vehicles don't casue climate change. I am in favor of green alternatives to wasteful gasoline cars.

Electric vehicles don't cause climate change? Have you notified the power companies about this?

sportbike... It's the newest trend in electric cars. The plastics come from jackalope horns, fabrics felted from liger fur, lubricants from loch ness monster oil, and the battery is actually canned unicorn tears. It's all green ;)

These arguements against electric cars are all straw dogs. You can get electricity from wind and solar. There just needs to be more of it, and if not for the cola and oil lobby, we'd all have it.

Also do not call me "dumb" just because I care for the Earth and you don't.

Why? You get on here and call people stupid and claim they are looking for "sex women"... Of course you can get electricity from wind and solar but the fact remains, the VAST majority of the world's power doesn't come from those sources. We'd all love an emission free vehicle but at this point in time, that isn't possible due to what it takes to power them. Electricity grids can't handle the drain and there is no way solar panels and wind generators would support the demand. Too many people and too many miles. Your argument is as straw man as it gets. There is reality and then there is the world that you live in. Let's not even mention that most EV's or hybrids still need petro to run after the batteries are drained. Being that I drive my family to the mountains on the weekends, that power would last me roughly 5% of the trip if I'm lucky due to terrain changes. From there, I'd be right back on gas. The tech isn't there to support most people. Again, just because you choose to live in an apartment, drive a "smart euro/asian" vehicle doesn't mean the rest of the world lives that way. You sound socialist the way you go on and on with that same old tired argument.

There are mandates for electric companies to produce more solar and wind power, so soon your arguments will be even more of the crap.

Because you are a person who "takes a family into the mountains" I dont think you are a person who can be reasoned with. I have chosen not to add undue burden to the world by adding more selfish mouths to feed. AND even if I did have a child, I certainly wouldn't take them into a rural area for no reason, consuming resources all the way! Or is this where you have your anti-government militia rascist meetings?

Travel should be for a purpose, not just "joyrides" into the mountains.

You really are a sick person. Yes, I have a family that consists of a wife and 2 children. By your comment, I can only assume that you live alone and have no personal life outside of trolling internet websites.

As for my purpose in going to the mountains, I teach children with special needs how to ski on the weekends. It's a joyride all the way there and back and it's a very fulfilling task in helping those in need. My wife and kids also participate. You obviously have nothing outside of your city centered apartment. For that... I feel sorry for you. There is much more to life than trolling websites and worrying about the sky falling. You really should take up a hobby. As for the "rural area" comment, I can only shake my head. Breckenridge, Vail, Winter Park, and Keystone are small towns but implying that they are rural and my visits there serve no purpose just shows how ignorant and close minded you really are. Not only are you an internet troll, you are a living breathing troll that hasn't left his apartment computer desk. You are trying to save a world that you aren't even enjoying in person. Great way to spend your time nitwit.

also, you need to educate yourself on how energy is governed. Many of these "mandates" you speak of are goal oriented programs that want to see energy companies procure 10-15% of their total power by 2020-2022 depending on the state. Assume that all private cars go to electric in that timeframe (will never happen), power consumption would go up by who knows how much...? I can't even venture to guess what that would be but it would a good bit more than 10-15% of current energy consumption... you'd be kicking out more power plant emissions than you are today.
