HUH? The State Of The Union Address Claims We Have Doubled MPG Since Obama Took Office
If you watched the State Or The Union Address last night you might have had a problem with a claim or two.  Most notably for the spies might be the claim that we doubled our MPG in 4 short years.   Really?  I guess I missed something there.

While it sounds good on paper and in a speech, the facts simply don't measure up.  A simple glance at FactCheck.org will reveals the truth:

Car Mileage Double-talk

The president claimed that “we have doubled the distance our cars will go on a gallon of gas” — which isn’t remotely close to being true right now.

In fact, according to the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute, the average EPA city/highway sticker mileage of light duty vehicles sold last month was 24.5 miles per gallon. That’s quite good — a record, in fact. And it’s 17 percent better than the 21.0 mpg for vehicles sold four years earlier, in the month Obama took office. That’s an impressive gain, but it’s a far cry from having “doubled the distance our cars will go on a gallon of gas.”

Obama was referring to his administration’s actions for raising future federal fuel efficiency standards, which call for cars and light trucks to achieve 54.5 mpg by the model year 2025. But it remains to be seen whether automakers can produce — and consumers will buy — vehicles that achieve such a doubling of average mileage a dozen years from now.

So was it political Double-Talk or just a slip of the tongue or maybe a complete disconnect with reality?

Most likely an intentional play on words.

The uninformed masses that ride the bus think WOW look at that!

The reality is huh?

Freudian slip. Obama meant to say that gas prices have doubled since he took office. Of course, he'd never intentionally mention that inconvenient truth.

What "pondosinatra"? or is it "Angryinch1"? No... it's "LexSucksBoys"? No... It's his new name "ClevelandSteamer". Tell me something. How long before you get this new name "ClevelandSteamer" banned like you did the others? Oh yeah. I liked the kitty avatar, you should have kept that one. LOL

See how easy it is to shut you up "Angryinch1"..., I mean "Pondosinatra"..., I mean "LexusBoys"..., I mean "Patriotnation" (yeah that was you)..., I mean "noneofyobus". Oh... It's "ClevelandSteamer" now. Funny how you shut up when I mention SOME of your past banned and deleted accounts that you had here. I've been deboosted, But I've never been banned. Enjoy buddy.

Which is worse? Having multiple accounts banned by the admins or being deboosted? Dude... You were banned multiple times. That’s has to be embarrassing.

And you say that you have a life outside of here? I doubt it. If I were kicked out of some place 5+ times, I wouldn’t keep coming back.

I give your current account two months before you get that one banned for unprovoked personal insults and attacks on other users. That’s what you do, and that’s why you keep getting banned. When will you learn?

Say's the man who was banned 5+ times. At least I wasn't banned. Can you say that? LOL!!!!

Why do you keep coming back? Isn't it obvious that the Admins don't want you here? How many times do they have to ban you for you to realize that?

Not only did you loose, you lost badly, and you've failed to grasp the reason for the loss. In a word hate does not an election or a better person make. Oh, and it's always easy to spot 009, the hate is always there. If only the logic was there in equal amounts.
Love brother!

They lost horribly. Twice. There hasn't been a 2 time butt whuppin like that since Eisenhower. They lost both the popular vote and the electoral vote, twice. The American people said "Hell No" twice. Romney? Were they actually serious about that? The guy couldn't even win a second term as governor yet they wanted him to run the country.

Wow!! Seems like you aren't too good with maths. Since when is %70 double? Also 2007 and 2008 were under the previous president. So now you're putting the Bush years on Obama? Nice try.

You'll soon be banned again anyway. like the previous 5+ times. Enjoy.

Damn, who would have thought that the majority of people who frequent this site are Obama hating, Fox watching, conservatives. *sigh* Sad, really. Can't sports and cars be at least two topics where political hate is not present?

mrcassis, the majority of people on this site tend to be rational automotive enthusiasts who prefer the free market to deliver the cars we like over centralized beaurocratic gov't. We prefer the 911 to the Trabant. A Mercedes over a Volga. Calling out the President when he lies about topics related to the auto industry is not "hate". I'm sure all of us would prefer to stay out of politics here on an automotive site. Unfortunately, politicians aren't willing to keep up their end of the bargain.

MBCLS07, your point of view is level headed and polite and all. But it would be actually be more poignant if it were more honest. People here dispise Obama, for one reason (most of us know what reason that is) or another. They use his automotive encompassing policies to "justify" that despisement. And yes, it is "hate". Rationalize it all you want, but it's simple and plain. And it's their right to hate the man. But leave it off this site. Thats what the Washington Times and WSJ are for.

mcassis, we both know there's nothing dishonest about my statement.

A.The criticisms of Obama's dishonesty regarding his MPG claims expressed in this thread do not qualify as hate, even if many of those criticizing Obama despise him for broader reasons.(You claim to know what "that reason" is. Please share, though I suspect your response will do more to reveal your own bias than that of anyone else.) What IS offensive is this assertion that any criticism of Obama is "hate" or, as many others have claimed, racist.

B.Your larger issue seems to be the presence on this blog of any criticism of Obama's actions related to the automobile industry—the implication being that politics have no place in an automotive-related discussion. A view that might actually be valid if politics didn't extend into the auto industry. As Obama's bailout of the UAW and his deceptive claim in the State of the Union address made clear, politics do extend to the auto industry and are perfectly relevant to the discussion here on Autospies.com. If you don't like it, don't participate. But don't attempt to determine for the rest of us what is or isn't appropriate to discuss.

What onumbnutz fails to state is that whereas some cars may have doubled their mileage by being half the weight and size of other cars, the price of gasoline during his clueless and hopeless misguided administration has DOUBLED!!!

But onumbnutz relies on lies, fraud and misdirection. And the stupid gullible public continues to sink into the morass as they continue to rely on their government welfare checks and food stamps. America the great? Pitiful.
