Toyota On The Ropes: Tells Australian Government It Will Build New Models Only If They Pay For Them

Toyota has lost a staggering $700 million in three years, but is negotiating for more taxpayer dollars to build a new model in Australia.

A senior company insider has revealed to News Limited the scale of the loss, which equates to about $3500 for every car Toyota exported to the Middle East over the past three years.

In the same period, the federal and Victorian governments contributed almost $100 million to Toyota's manufacturing operations - $35 million to go towards the local production of the Camry Hybrid and a further $63 million to go towards a $330 million upgrade of Toyota's engine factory at Altona.

Not exactly on the ropes. nice try, 009. 700 million dollar loss over 3 years is nothing for Toyota. And as for the rest of your headline, it is also falsea and misleading (Your error being a hidden intention, no doubt). Toyota is looking to expand, and may ask for government assistance. "preliminary discussions have begun with state and federal governments regarding support." This is SOP, not some act of desperation.

Did you even read the article? Toyota is going to bring in MORE jobs. They're not considering cutting existing jobs.

I did read the article...its what's between the lines. Toyota for PR reasons speaks like a good citizen but behind the scenes I assure you they are telling the government that with out concessions business will falter and jobs will be lost.

Toyota is the greatest company in the history of the universe. They build the best vehicles on the planet bar none. Every Toyota performs better, handles better, Lasts longer, is better built, more fuel efficient, faster, and better looking (inside and out) than any car that competes against it. Anyone who disagrees is just hating.
